South Orlando Baptist Church
April 1998 to Present

Troop 498 was founded in April 1998 by a group of leaders led by Scoutmaster Ronald T. Landers and Bruce Alvin at All Saints Lutheran Church in Orlando, Florida.
In 2001, the Troop expanded and moved to South Orlando Baptist Church, promoting a Character Building Experience through our new charter organization, and cooperation with other community leaders to train them in Scoutcraft, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred virtues, using the aims and methods that define Scouts.
The Troop has grown over the past 28 years to include more than 55 Eagle Scouts and continues to meet the needs of today's youth. Many of our community leaders credit their Scouting background for their progress, exemplary character, and citizenship. Today's program is led by Scoutmaster Bob Gibson and Troop Committee Chair Margaret Douidy. In February 2026, the troop converted to the new family troop format, allowing girls to join the troop directly for the first time. Teaching young people to understand their duty to God, their country, others, and themselves through traditional values continues to strengthen the Scouting program.
The leadership of the Troop continues to expand the Scouting America movement and to remain a proactive organization dedicated to servant leadership.
